It’s no surprise that we like sex. That’s not all, sex aside from being pleasurable has a slew of health benefits. The perks of sex, masturbation included, extend beyond the bedroom.

Here are just a few of more reasons to ramp it up in bed.

1. Legitimate exercise

Oh yeah, sex counts as exercise. Some studies have found men who have sex at least twice a week were significantly less  at risk of cardiovascular disease than those who have it once a month or less. Accumulative stress, anxiety and anger can pose danger for heart attack. A hot and heavy sesh from foreplay to finish can rack up a pretty good sweat.

2. Reduce stress and anxiety

When oxytocin and endorphins fire off during sex, they activate the pleasure centres in the brain that incite sensations of bliss. All the while bringing levels of cortisol (stress hormone) down. When you get down and dirty your levels of stress, tension and anxiety get a kick in the backside. Kick back, chill and enjoy this awesome moment when your mind is in total bliss and peace.

3. Improved sleep

Stress often brings the onset of insomnia, but here’s a simple solution that beats sleeping pills. Among the many hormones released during sex is prolactin. The perfect solution for sounder sleep.

There has been extensive research on the correlation between pain and sexual pleasure. Experts have found sex increases the thresholds of tolerance and detection by about 40 and 50 percent, respectively.

5. The Ultimate glow

We’ve always heard about the elusive post-orgasm “glow,” but it turns out there’s a lot to scientifically back it up as well. When you orgasm, swarms of hormones like oestrogen and testosterone are additionally released. As a result, we see a boost in blood circulation throughout the body, which helps brighten your complexion and reduce dryness of skin. Some even say it can help you look younger too! Rolling in the hay just once or twice a week has shown a difference as high as 30 percent from those who have sex on a rarer occasion.
